About FRBH
Our Vision
A nation where every first responder has access to behavioral healthcare that is competent, consistent, and worthy of their service.
Why We Exist
The American Board of First Responder Behavioral Healthcare (FRBH) is the nation’s independent nonprofit accrediting and credentialing authority, setting the gold standard for behavioral health in public safety.
We define, verify, and sustain excellence in the care of firefighters, law enforcement officers, paramedics, dispatchers, correctional staff, and crisis-response personnel—all professionals exposed to trauma through the work they do to protect and serve others.
Our mission is to ensure that every organization and professional entrusted with responder care meets the highest national benchmark of excellence, integrity, and cultural understanding.
Founder’s Message
I founded FRBH because first responders are the gatekeepers of the American Dream. The safety, stability, and opportunity we all work for depend on their courage and sacrifice—yet their well-being is too often taken for granted.
Through years of service—both in uniform and as a behavioral health executive, I’ve seen the system from every side. And I refuse to accept one that leaves our protectors unprotected. FRBH was created to change that by establishing a national standard that makes responder wellness a responsibility, not an afterthought.
Because protecting those who protect us isn’t optional—it’s essential.

The Need for Standards
While agencies rely on respected frameworks like SAMHSA, NFPA, and CALEA for operational guidance, no single body has defined what quality behavioral healthcare looks like for those serving on the front lines.
FRBH fills that gap—delivering a unified, evidence-based standard that ensures consistency, accountability, and compassion across every discipline.
