IN THIS LESSON

Substance Use, Sleep, and Family Systems

Work-related trauma, irregular shifts, and sustained operational stress can have significant effects on sleep hygiene, substance use, and family functioning. This course helps practitioners contextualize these behaviors within the responder lifestyle rather than pathologize them. Topics include maladaptive coping patterns, the neurobiology of exhaustion, compassion fatigue, and the strain of secondary trauma on family systems. Clinicians learn to integrate culturally sensitive approaches to recovery and family engagement that honor responder identity while promoting balance and accountability.
